Analysis

This Washington offense has the potential to make a rapid turnaround from one of the league's worst, to a fun and exciting one. Former offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy was exposed last year, and he dropped down to the college ranks (UCLA) after running this Commanders' offense into the ground last season. Anyone that needed confirmation of Bienemy's struggles got it on Saturday when his Bruins offense scored a total of one touchdown against Hawaii. New offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury was not cut out to be a head coach in Arizona, but there is confidence that he can lead an offense when he is not responsible for managing the whole team. There is only one direction to go after Sam Howell threw 21 interceptions last year, and took a league-high 64 sacks. Rookie QB Jayden Daniels will get the nod behind an offensive line that has been re-built from last season. While these guys are a touch past their prime, tight end Zach Ertz and running back Austin Ekeler will be able to help Daniels in the huddle with their veteran presence. During his time in Arizona, Kingsbury’s offense ranked No. 1 in both situation-neutral pace and no-huddle rate. In the south Florida heat and humidity, running a fast pace may be the Commanders' best option against this Bucs' defense. Tampa Bay's best defender is nose tackle Vita Vea, who clocks in at 346 pounds. Want to slow him down? Don't let him catch his breath. Baker Mayfield and the Bucs' offense would be wise to employ a similar approach. Washington's defense is welcoming in a swarm of new starters with a new head coach. Want to keep them off-balance? Run tempo and keep them on their toes in the Tampa afternoon sunshine. Both offenses would be wise to keep their foot on the gas in this one.
