There were a handful of games in Week 1 that left us questioning how much a particular team was holding back against a lesser opponent in an attempt to keep things concealed for a bigger upcoming game. These SEC foes were certainly involved in two games that we are referring to. On the Kentucky side, Big Blue handled things with relative ease against Southern Miss. In a game that would make the service academies proud, Kentucky earned a 31-0 win while only running 43 total plays as the game was called at midnight because of weather issues. New QB Brock Vandagriff had three touchdown passes and added 35 yards on the ground. The Wildcats generated 7.9 yards per play, but they simply didn't run very many plays. Things were a lot less comfortable in Columbia where South Carolina got a real scare from Old Dominion. Redshirt freshman QB LaNorris Sellers was 10-for-23 with 114 yards, but he did add 68 yards and a touchdown on the ground. South Carolina's offense did not look good, but the Gamecocks had one touchdown called back because of a penalty, one missed field goal and Sellers had a sure-fire touchdown dropped by a wide open receiver. Eight of the last nine meetings in this series have stayed under the total, but none of those games had a closing total this low. Five of those games had totals in the 50s, including last year's contest (52.5). Is a 10-point adjustment warranted from November to today? Neither team played a "normal" game last week as both experienced weather delays and issues. How much can you really take away from those? In our opinion, this is too big of an adjustment from recent years. Weather conditions should be perfect in Lexington on Saturday.
