Analysis

Per ESPN Stats, the +651 yardage differential that Penn State enjoyed over Kent State last week was biggest margin in any game over the last decade and the biggest margin between two FBS-level programs in the last 20 years. While not officially a White Out, James Franklin has asked for "a White Out environment" at Beaver Stadium on Saturday night. We have adjusted our home field numbers accordingly (we actually did, that wasn't a pun). Illinois shouldn't be TOO intimidated by the atmosphere because the Illini just went to Lincoln and beat Nebraska at night in a nationally-televised contest. The key to Penn State's success on offense this season can be directly linked to the hiring of former Kansas offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki. With Kotelnicki calling the shots over the last few years, the Jayhawks had one of the most dynamic offenses in the country. Without him, Kansas has failed to eclipse 20 points against UNLV and Illinois. Kansas' loss has been Penn State's gain. The Nittany Lions' offense is top-30 in the country in both rushing and passing EPA while sitting No. 8 in the country in success rate. Illinois' QB Luke Altmyer is playing some of the best football of his career. Altmyer will be anxious to erase the demons of his last performance against Penn State, where he threw four interceptions. Through four games this season, Altmyer has not turned the ball over a single time. Wid receiver Zakhari Franklin was a prized acquisition in the transfer portal, giving Altmyer a reliable target in the passing game. When Penn State traveled to West Virginia in Week 1, the total closed at 49. Illinois' offense is better than West Virginia's, and this total should be a few ticks higher.
