Analysis

We're not going to put too much stock into TCU's 66-42 loss at SMU last week. Obviously, that was not an ideal result, but emotions were high in Sonny Dykes' return to Dallas. SMU jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a 51-yard fumble return for a touchdown, a 69-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown. Coach Dykes was ejected at halftime. In the grand scheme of things, none of that is likely to repeat itself on Saturday in Kansas City. This game is being played at Arrowhead, so the Jayhawks will not enjoy any kind of homefield advantage. Kansas has lost three-straight one-possession games to Illinois, UNLV and West Virginia, and although two of those three teams are unbeaten, its disconcerting that the team has been out-scored 32-7 over the last three fourth quarters. The loss of former offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki is being felt on the sidelines as QB Jalon Daniels has thrown seven interceptions this season. Kansas blew a 28-17 lead with just 5:39 left last week against West Virginia, and Kansas has been out-scored 48-17 in the final five minutes of halves this season. Kansas' standout LB Cornell Wheeler left the West Virginia game with a leg injury and may not play, which would remove the Jayhawks top tackler from the equation against a TCU offense averaging 37.5 points per game. The Jayhawks are already down Hawk LB Jayson Gilliam. TCU has won each of the last four meetings in this Big XII matchup. Ultimately, we don't believe Kansas should be favored in this spot.
