Fulham at Ipswich Town
England Premier League
(200101) Fulham at (200102) Ipswich Town
Thinking we see a low-scoring match here. Ipswich has been smacked in the face by schedule makers as they lined up Liverpool and Man City to open their season. Rough for anyone let alone a newly promoted side. Now, they get to host Fulham which presents their first real opportunity to get points and all signs point to a concentrated effort, mostly on the defensive side.
Ipswich is going to struggle to score this season, that much is clear, and their best strategy to get points as they attempt to stay in the Premier League will be to slow matches down and play them as tight as possible, hoping for that one or two breaks/bounces to go their way.
That being said, Fulham struggled on the road in their opener at United, creating only 0.40 xG in that match though they did much better last weekend in their home win over Leicester. But that was the Cottagers all of last season. +0.02 xG differential at home and a -0.76 xG differential away. They had a 9-2-8 home record and only a 4-6-9 away record. That's just four away wins all season.
This will certainly be a good spot for Fulham to possibly grab a win, but I think we see Ipswich give them a fit and keep this game tight.
