(341) Iowa State at (342) Iowa
341 Iowa State at Iowa State
This has traditionally been a very low scoring series. But unlike the service academy games in which both teams play the same type of offenses, there are reasons to break this trend. First of all, most of these totals have been much higher than what we are seeing here. Points are at more of a premium in low scoring games, and this line is at least three points lower than in previous years. But the main reason we are taking this game over is the strength of these starting quarterbacks.
Both signal callers have the ability to throw the ball downfield with accuracy, something both teams haven’t had together in recent memory. Iowa State just put up 353 yards and 7.35 ypp against an outstanding FCS squad in North Dakota. Iowa put up 40 points and 492 yards last week against a weaker FCS foe in Illinois State. So both clubs come into this contest confident in their ability to move the football.
These two teams produced 33 combined points in their meeting a year ago. Both offenses have better personnel this time around.
