The knee-jerk reaction here is to grab Arizona State in a pick-the-winner situation, as Arizona State pounded Wyoming 48-7 and beat Mississippi State 30-23. After beating those two teams from much bigger conferences, you would think they should be able to handle Texas State. Texas State is also 2-0, but beating Lamar and UTSA doesn’t seem as impressive as beating Wyoming and Mississippi State. Arizona State was able to run wild on both of those teams. Texas State plays much better defense against the run than Arizona State's first two opponents. I also like this Texas State offense; even though it’s only been two games, they are a member of the 200 Club. The 200 Club consists of teams that both run and pass for over 200 yards per game. Both of Arizona State's first two opponents couldn’t run the football; they were one-dimensional. They will have their hands full stopping Texas State. I have to point out the fact that Arizona State is in a huge sandwich game. They just played Mississippi State from the SEC and next week go to Big 12 country to play Texas Tech. Having Texas State sandwiched in between those two powerhouse conferences will have Arizona State looking past them. The wrong team is favored. TEXAS STATE 34-23
