Analysis

This feels like a trip to the Last Chance Saloon for Daniel Jones and Brian Daboll. After this week, the Giants have trips to Cleveland, Seattle and Pittsburgh on deck while hosting the Cowboys, Eagles and Bengals. If New York is unable to secure a win against a rookie QB in his second start, Big Blue may be staring at a 1-7 (0-8?!) start before the calendar flips to November. Daboll gave his quarterback a vote of confidence this week, saying Jones was not in danger of being benched. If you watched Hard Knocks over the offseason, you saw how much the Giants' organization agonized over Saquon Barkley's impending departure. That agony was put on full display last week as Barkley scored three touchdowns for the Eagles while Devin Singletary rushed for 37 yards on ten carries at MetLife Stadium. Jones has pieces to work with in the passing game, and this would be the ideal week to air things out. Washington's defense allowed Baker Mayfield to go 24-for-30 with 289 passing yards and four touchdowns last week. The Commanders' secondary is considered to be the worst in the league this season. If Jones can't beat this defense through the air, then it should be "last call" on this era in New York. Look for Coach Daboll to throw the kitchen sink at this one, knowing that opportunities for wins are going to be rare over the next two months.
