MLB - Texas Rangers at Seattle Mariners
Game Thoughts: Jacob deGrom makes his long awaiting return after a second Tommy John surgery and has tuned up nicely in his rehab assignments and with the Rangers 7.5 games out of a wild card the thought is to get him a couple starts heading into the offseason rather than one where he's rushed back. Rangers manager Bochy stated he'll be on some type of pitch count similar to weekend returning starter Scherzer and ideally around 5 innings. The Rangers bullpen hasn't been overworked of late, so that won't be an issue and the Rangers are clearly playing spoilers at the moment and doing a fine job of it going 11-5 their past 16 games including a late rally last night to win the opener 5-4. Hancock gets the spot start tonight for the Mariners filling in for Luis Castillo and the Mariners are 1-3 in his 4 spot starts since May 1st where he's allowed 13 runs in 18.2 innings. With a hot hitting Rangers team of late and deGrom returning to face a Mariners offense hitting .219 we'll take the short priced favorite here.
