3% Take the Chicago White Sox (#971) (action)

I just went back and double-checked – this is the first time in the 2024 season that I’ve recommended putting $$ on the Chicago White Sox.  That said, I haven’t read any quotes like this coming from the White Sox clubhouse all year as they ride a three game winning streak into Tuesday. 

Manager Grady Sizemore: “Wins have been hard to come by, so when you can get one, you appreciate it. When you can get a couple in a row, it's even better. It was a good atmosphere in that dugout, and the guys are happy in there right now."  Tonight’s starter, David Martin: "I think we're closer than everybody thinks. Granted, yes, the record's bad, but I think we're playing good baseball …..We're grinding at-bats, we have guys that are grinding on the mound.”  Slugger Andrew Vaughn: “We could definitely feel the energy in the dugout. We were rolling. Everybody was swinging the bat well, and you know, hitting is contagious." 

Plain and simple – the White Sox have legitimate ‘bet-on’ potential over the last two weeks of the regular season with the motivation to NOT finish with the worst record in MLB history.  I’ve seen very bad teams come to life in late September looking to avoid this record before (the 2003 Tigers certainly come to mind, with a hot streak down the stretch).

The Angels are 30 games under .500.  They’ve lost six in a row heading into tonight; all by multi-run margins.  They’re 1-5 in Griffin Canning’s last six starts; Canning allowed nine runs in his last outing at Minnesota.  LA has no business laying a price; Chicago’s showing real signs of life. Take the White Sox.
