2% Rotation #303: Thursday CFB 2% OVER 62.5 in Appalachian State Mountaineers vs South Alabama Jaguars @ 7:30 ET - Early season ratings can be tough because teams sometimes have played very weak competition or very strong competition and this impacts them. That said, we are 3 games into the season now for both these teams and it is still worth noting that South Alabama has one of the most efficient rankings on offense and Appalachian State has one of the least efficient rankings on defense. Also, the Mountaineers like to play fast as their pace on offense ranks among the top 15 in the nation. So the point is that we can infer that the Jaguars offense should enjoy plenty of success here but we also know App St is certainly favored at home with good reason and should be able to pile up big points here. The Mountaineers play fast and had 500 yards in their season opener and 505 yards in last week's tight win at East Carolina. In between was a shellacking at the hands of Clemson but, as you can see, against normal or inferior competition, Appalachian State has no problem moving the ball! As for South Alabama, two of their games got to 90 points or more this season and both the Jags and their opponent got to at least 550 yards in their season opening 52-38 loss to North Texas. They also allowed over 400 yards to Ohio University and, of course, racked up incredible stats in their 87-10 win over Northwestern State last week. Again some of the stats were unusual because of facing an outclassed Demons team last week but there was nothing crazy about the Jags game with the Mean Green totaling 90 in Week 1 this season. That said, asking for this one to get into the mid-60s is not a big ask the way I see it. Afternoon rain should be out of the area before kickoff in this one and light winds and pleasant weather expected here.
