(923) New York Yankees at (924) Oakland Athletics
The Yankees start a series with the A's in Oakland. Gerrit Cole starts for the Yankees. He has been much better on the road this year with a 2.84 ERA compared to a 5.01 ERA in the Bronx. He's holding hitters to a .222 average compared to .261 at home. Cole needs to keep the ball in the ballpark. But Oakland has hit the 5th fewest home runs at home since August 1st. Strangely, Cole hasn't faced the A's since 2022, but he was stellar in the one start against them. The Yankees bats should have enough against J.T. Ginn, who is making his 5th start of the season. In his first four, he's allowed at least 2 earned runs. but he has a 1.45 WHIP over those four starts. So the Yankees should have base runners on and need to knock them in. New York clinched a playoff spot, but there should be no let down as they still are fighting for the AL East title and the top seed in the American League.
