THE PLAY: Total Over 155.5 (-109)
I don’t understand this adjustment. The first playoff game between these teams finished with 184 total points, and now we’re being asked to believe the rematch is going to produce almost 30 fewer points just to stay under this number. I understand lowering expectations after an extremely high-scoring game, but 155.5 feels like too much of an adjustment.
Golden State shot 49% from the field and 50% from three in the first game. Obviously, I don’t expect them to continue shooting 50% from three, so there should be some regression there. But they don’t have to duplicate that performance for this game to get over 155.5.
Dallas shot 47% from the field while making only 6-of-20 from three, or 30%. There’s room for the Wings to improve from outside, which could help offset some of the expected regression from Golden State. The pace wasn’t anything ridiculous either. It was fast enough to create scoring opportunities, but the 184-point result wasn’t simply the product of some completely unsustainable track meet.
The recent matchup history is another reason I’m comfortable coming back to the over. The last three meetings between these teams have all produced 170+ points. We don’t need another 184-point explosion—we have more than two touchdowns worth of cushion from 170 down to this 155.5 number.
The market made the adjustment after Game 1, but I think it adjusted too far. Even with Golden State cooling off from three, these teams have shown enough offensively against each other that I’m willing to make them prove they belong in the mid-150s.
