THE PLAY: Maryland +7.5 (-115)

Why would anyone lay this number with USC right now? The Trojans have lost 3 of 4 in the Big 10 and trailed by double digits (at home) in that lone win (Wisconsin). Now, after a brutal OT loss (at home) to Penn State last Saturday, they have to make cross-country trip. That's bad news because the last time Southern Cal won a regular season game in either the Central or Eastern Time Zone was September of 2012 against Syracuse. For those “scoring at home,” that was over 12 years ago.

The Trojans have already lost outright as road favorites to Michigan and Minnesota. Not only did they struggle in the 1H vs. Wisconsin, but it took a TD in the final seconds of regulation to beat LSU. The defense gave up 500+ yards to Penn State, resulting in a blown double digit lead.

Those teams are all better than Maryland (0-3 in the Big 10). But the Terrapins' 37-10 home loss to Northwestern last Friday was a misleading final. They were -4 in turnover margin and had a fumble returned for a TD. Keep in mind the Terps entered that game with one of the best TO margins in the country. I think the home dog keeps this one close.
